Project Description
IUPUI had the need for a new parking garage for its sports facility at the downtown Indianapolis campus. They selected F.A. Wilhelm to construct the 1,300 space, 15.5 million dollar facility. The Walker Parking Consultant design included a very technical concrete mix design. The mix needed to meet a specific shrinkage resistant tolerance and it was required to have three gallons of corrosion inhibitor per yard.
The strength requirement was 3000 psi in 72 hours and 5000 psi in 28 days. Shelby Materials was able to provide a mix that had excellent workability and achieved the initial 3000 psi in just 24 hours. This allowed F.A. Wilhelm to
accelerate the construction schedule considerably. The project won an American Concrete Institute Outstanding Concrete Achievement Award.
