The President of Shelby Materials, Matt Haehl, has recently joined the Indy Chamber Board of Directors. A lifelong Shelbyville resident, Haehl is passionate about serving the communities of Central Indiana through foundations and nonprofits, as well as with Shelby Materials, an industry-leading ready-mix concrete and aggregate producer. Here at Shelby, we believe that being involved in the community is of the utmost importance, and we are proud of our leadership for setting such a great example.
About Matt Haehl
Matt Haehl is a graduate of Purdue University, earning a degree in Business Management, in 2000. He is part of the third generation of the Haehl family to be at the helm of Shelby Materials and was named president of the business in January 2019 after nearly 20 years on the company sales team. Matt resides in the Indy suburb of Shelbyville with his wife, Jenni, and their two children, Brock (20) and Sydney (14). In his free time, Matt enjoys watching his kids compete in athletics, playing pickleball and golf and attending Purdue sporting events.
In addition to his role on the Indy Chamber Board of Directors, he currently serves as President of the Shelbyville Education Foundation and the Shelby County Boys and Girls Club. Additionally, he sits on the Executive Committee of the Shelby County Economic Development Corporation, serves on the Legislative Committee of the Indiana Mineral Aggregate Association (IMAA), and is a past President and Director for the Shelby County Babe Ruth.
He was an integral part of helping an important safety bill pass in Indiana, and he has also served as president and board member of the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA). Shelby Materials is one of the oldest member companies of the IRMCA, with one of our staff members regularly serving as a member of their board of directors.
Shelby Materials in the community
As a family-owned business that has been serving South and Central Indiana for more than 70 years, being involved in the local community has long been a goal of the Haehl family. Each generation has set a great example of leadership and community service for the next one. “To be a part of a third-generation family-owned business is no small feat,” said Matt Haehl. “The things our fathers modeled and said, even when we were very young, set a great example for how to work, run a business, and treat people.”
Shelby is also well-known in Central Indiana for their portfolio of high-quality concrete and aggregate projects, including the Marion County Community Justice Campus, Proscenium Development in Carmel, Cummins Global Distribution Headquarters in downtown Indianapolis, and a variety of city infrastructure and traffic work.
“We look forward to the next 70 years and continuing to grow our community involvement and serve the residential and commercial concrete needs of the valued customers,” said Aaron Haehl, Shelby Materials Chief Financial Officer. “We believe in hiring great people and in putting down roots in the communities we serve,” said Parker Haehl, Shelby Materials Vice President Southern Division. “We take a lot of pride in the development of those communities, supporting our team and in giving back.”
